Start a Business for the Right Reasons

In my line of business, I get to meet a great number of people whose main career, or even life, goal is to start their own business . Having a goal like this one is actually amazing! It gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It helps you focus your energy on one thing and organise your time around your goal.

But let’s take a step back and start thinking of all the reasons why people decide to start a business in the first place. I often hear people mention they just want to control their own time or work their own hours, have more free time or achieve a new lifestyle. If you are in business yourself or thinking about starting one, chances are you have thought about these things too - I know I have before starting my first business!

The truth is that these are all great reasons and will (eventually) occur after establishing your own business. However, in my opinion, there is only one right reason. The only reason that has the power to provide sustainability to your business and can guarantee success now and in the future is passion as I explain in this video.

Being a business owner is not as easy as you might think, hence without passion you are likely to get bored and even want to quit. Having a passion for the product or service that you want to sell is the only way you can convince other people to buy from you, support you, and believe in your brand.

Therefore, before taking the next step, take a moment to ask yourself that: ‘ Am I passionate about the product or service that I plan to start selling? ’. If the answer is ‘yes’, that means you are on the right path to success!
