The August Myth

Today I want to address one of the most common misconceptions in business which I hear a lot during the summer. A lot of the entrepreneurs I work with seem to think that August is one of the most difficult months of the year to do business due to the fact that their customers go on holiday during that time.

There is no doubt that a lot of people go on holiday during the month of August, however, not everyone is away at the same time in any given company ! Surely, it feels a bit more quiet than usual due to fewer phone calls, emails, etc., but there are still people working on their business in the month of August, just like I explain in this video.

Do not use the ‘August Myth’, as I call it, as an excuse not to work hard on your business. In fact, you can treat this big misconception as an opportunity to grow . When everyone else thinks of August as a ‘dead period’ and stops trying to win new business, that automatically creates a competitive advantage for those who are still trying . When no one else but you pursue your potential buyers, they are naturally much more likely to buy from you!

There is plenty of work to do in August, you just have to be smart about it. For example, if you work in B2B, think of businesses whose work peaks around the summertime , such as wedding professionals, tourism, and summer resorts. All you have to do is shift your focus towards the right target.

Lastly, if work still turns out to be slower than usual, just treat August as a period to prepare for the rest of the year and do those lengthy tasks and projects you have likely been postponing since the start of the year. Quiet periods are also ideal for taking a step back to see where we are at and plan accordingly for the rest of the year.

While it is perfectly normal for the workflow to fluctuate within the year, my advice is to treat every month as a great month . If anything, work harder in August and I promise you are going to get the same results or even better.
