Is Social Media a Problem?

Are you a social media addict?

Do you find yourself on Facebook, YouTube or TikTok or any other social platform wondering where the last hour has gone? Worse than that, when using social media, are you telling yourself that you are actually busy “researching” or “working on social media”, or any other of the many things we say to ourselves, but really we know we should be taking action instead?
I know the answer is probably YES , because most of us are guilty of this to a certain extent when we have a social media account of some sort. Don’t get me wrong, social media has real merit, especially for digital marketers like Blam Partners, but one of the most difficult things about social media is noticing when it becomes a “problem” stopping you from getting stuff done.
Social media algorithms are designed to engage you and keep you locked into their platform. It’s becoming a serious problem for a lot of people and will seriously hinder how much they get done if they don’t control it, or admit it’s a problem.
So in the spirit of the theme of this message, I’m going to give you three tips you can implement immediately, “right now”, instead of spending time reading a long blog when you could be taking action! This is recommended by many top entrepreneurs, so don’t dismiss it, just do it!
  1. Firstly turn off the notifications on your social media. Control your social media instead of it controlling you. The constant pinging of your phone is like crack, sucking you into the screen with the fear of missing that next piece of viral content. Turn them off!

  2.  Commit to becoming a contributor not consumer on social. Posting to your target audience regularly, both in terms of actual posts and stories, reels etc. There’s plenty of advice out there for this to make it easy, just don’t get sucked into watching too many YouTube videos before taking action when “researching”!

  3. Then, diarise when you will be posting and responding to messages with a reminder that notifies you saying “social media posting/research/replies” (I have this twice a day, once in the morning , once in the evening). If you want to consume, set time aside and set an alarm to prompt you when time is up.

These may appear extreme to you, but if they do, remember for most addicts, denial is the first stage! If you want to find out more about how to implement this or any other strategy, book on a call with me or Ed through the link on the homepage.   If becoming a super successful entrepreneur is your dream, diary management like this is vital. These three steps could be the tips that help you get much more done towards your goals. Let’s start working on that business or making a decision as to what business you are going to start, instead of falling down the rabbit hole that is a real social problem.   So what are you waiting for?
